I started The Prepping Princess as a way to share the journey I was taking to be more self-sufficient. There were so many skills that I wanted to learn so that I could care for myself and others should the need arise. I tackle one skill every month or two (although the gardening skill is on its 2nd year and my thumb has only gone from black to gray) and then write about it and share with whoever cares. Gardening, hunting, cooking, trapping and even fishing are a few of my recently acquired skills and then I made soap. Lard, sodium hydroxide and water. Those were the ingredients used in my first batch. I loved every minute of it. I loved the pressure of working with the caustic lye (I admit to being completely terrified the first time) and feeling the batch go from oil and water to soap. It all made sense to me. The math and chemistry were perfect. The nerd in me rejoiced! I am not a crafty person. I don't see the abstract but with soap, you don't have to think outside any box, you just have to get the math right. I would never have thought I could create art, but that's how I feel every time I cut a bar. I haven't been the same since. I'm constantly soaping, tweaking recipes, or dreaming about soap. I love it and I really hope you will love it too.
