Wood Fired Shino Bottle or Vase
This bottle was thrown by me on the pottery wheel. Before it dried I gave it some personality with three belly buttons. After that, it got glazed with a shino glaze. I chose this traditional glaze because it loves the wood kiln, and that's where this piece was destined. Using wood as a fuel source means you have a lot of ash ending up in the kiln. This melts in the heat and forms a glaze, creating beautiful and unique results every firing. The flecks are spots where ash landed and melted. The green crackle is a line of ash drip. This wood ash can be very desirable, and looks beautiful on this bottle. The open flame also caused a pinkish/coral blushing in some areas. It is the perfect size for a small bouquet or simply on its own. It measures almost 5" tall I will happily combine shipping.
