Pit Fired Succulent Planter, Ceramic Cactus Pot
This pot was thrown by me on the pottery wheel. After its initial bisque firing, to give it strength for the next step, it was fired it in an outdoor pit. The carbon from the burning wood creates beautiful shades of smoke, from wisp to deep black. Because every fire is different, each piece is completely unique. This piece certainly is with it's beautiful black and white pattern and a mysterious bit of green on the lip. I was completely puzzled by that when it was pulled from the pit, and wrote it off as the luck of the kiln gods. Being exposed to air as it cooled created small crackles in the glaze. As a result this pot is not food safe, but would make a great succulent planter or catch all. This pot measures almost 3.5" tall I will happily combine shipping.
