These porcelain tornado bowls were thrown by myself on the pottery wheel. After they stiffened up, I trimmed their little foot rings. After the initial bisque firing, to give them strength for the next step, I fired them in an outdoor wood firing kiln. At over 2000 degrees the ash from the wood melts and turns into a glaze and whips around the kiln, giving each pot a totally unique galze. You can see the green ash drips especially well on the widest bowl. The open flame roasted the bare outsides, causing beautiful flashing.
