Moon and Stars Pendant, Fine Silver, Sterling Chain, One of a Kind
This one of a kind moon and stars pendant is made of .999 fine silver. It has a round dichroic glass moon, framed in an oval shape. Little raised silver dots shine like stars in the night sky. I have added the Chinese characters for moon (yue) and star (xing). It is signed by the artist (me) on the back. This necklace would make a truly unique gift of jewelry. I started out by making a mold of an oval frame made out of two vertical curves. The curves are asymmetrical, with a little curl at each end. Inside each curve are some raised bumps, which shine against the darker recesses of the pendant. These represent the stars. There are a total of ten stars, two large and eight small. For the moon I used a round dichroic cabochon. It has two kinds of dichroic glass in it, so the round cab looks like a full moon, but if you look closer you can see what looks like a half moon - half in sun and half in shadow. There are two Chinese characters in the spaces above and below the moon. I carved these by hand in wet metal clay, which turned out to be very difficult to do because they are so small! The top character says "yue", which means moon, and the bottom character says "xing", which means star. I have added a dark patina to highlight the details, and finished it with a coat of jewelers wax to help retain the finish. Moon and Stars comes on a heavy Argentium sterling silver snake chain with a lobster clasp. Please contact me if you would prefer another option. This pendant won second place in the 2015 Lakeland Art Gallery juried show. For more info on the materials that I use, please visit the Policies section of my shop.
