Hand Carved and Painted Wooden Bird - Cardinal
I love to watch all of the birds on the winter feeder and just wonder at what God has created. I especially love the cardinals. Their bright red color and size go together to make them stand out among all the other things around them. I was inspired to do this carving when I was out filling the feeder one day and this cardinal was just sitting on an old fence post watching me and waiting for me to leave. He seemed so comfortable and relaxed it made me laugh. Both the cardinal and the habitat (the stump) of this piece are carved from basswood. The carving stands about 6 3/4 inches tall and the longest portion of the base is about 7 inches. The bird itself is almost eight inches from the tip of the beak to the end of the tail. It has been painted in acrylics with a coat of a nontoxic water-based varnish added for protection. As with all of my carvings, it has been signed and dated. All of my carvings are done free hand and I only use patterns to determine general shapes and sizes. This means that anything I produce is a one-of-a-kind creation that, I believe, you will be proud to display in your home or give to someone as a cherished gift. If this carving isn't exactly what you want, don't hesitate to convo me about something different. I am more than happy to hear your ideas and work with you to bring your imagination to life.
