Chickatey's owner/creator/designer Katey has been making jewelry since she was very young. At age 5 an African imports and bead store opened in her small hometown in Maine, and Katey became fascinated by handmade crafts from around the world. When she was a teenager, she began working at this shop and was taught many beading and jewelry-making techniques from the shop owner. As she attended college in New York, she found herself to be very busy and took a break from making things. After college she started creating earrings and necklaces as a hobby, and then opened a store online awhile later. A busy work life at a nonprofit caused her to put her shop on the backburner for awhile, but she became re-inspired by the art of metal working and is excited to share her new craft. All items are handmade in Katey's apartment in Harlem, New York City. Materials are sourced from all over the world, with an emphasis on quality. Katey is married and has three fur children--adopted house rabbits. They try to help with her shop but mostly serve as moral support :-).
