This Ambrosia Maple coffee table measures approximately 20 inches wide by 50 inches long and is 18 inches high. Table top thickness is 1 5/8 inches. This piece exhibits an unusual amount of the ambrosia marking. Ambrosia Maple is a soft maple which exhibits a variety of greyish-blue to brown streaks that are caused by an infestation of the ambrosia beetle. The beetle burrows into the tree and leaves a fungus in its path, which is what causes the discoloration in the wood and creates a very unique pattern in each board. The small black holes are where the beetle has entered and bored through the wood. Larger natural cracks & voids have been filled with black epoxy. Small checks, cracks, bore holes and other natural imperfections have been stabilized but otherwise remain as is and are typical of natural edge tables. The wood slab is flattened and the finishing process begins by sanding through various grits up to 400 grit. Next two coats of oil based finish are applied to bring out the depth and figure of the wood. This is followed by at least 5 coats of varnish to provide a durable top coat. The legs are made from 1/4 x 2 1/2 steel and were fabricated locally for me. They have been powder coated with a semi-gloss black finish. I have attached felt pads to the bottom so you can place the table directly on hardwood floors. The table will be shipped via FedEx Home Delivery. I am showing a fixed shipping cost for the most distant shipping point in the US. I will refund the difference between that cost and the actual cost of shipping. Or, if you prefer, contact me before purchasing and I will provide you with a shipping cost to your location. I will deliver free within a one hour drive from Charlotte NC. The table will be shipped disassembled, but all hardware is included. Only a screwdriver is needed to attach the legs.
