Item details Handmade Dimensions Length: 69 Inches; Width: 75 Inches Material 100% Cotton This hand-made quilt was inspired by the changing leaves of an Oklahoma autumn. The colors range from poppy red, to peach, to creamy green. It is mainly floral, but several triangle units have some soft geometric lines or shapes in them to keep things interesting. This quilt is made entirely of half square triangle units, except for the white and poppy border and peach backing with colors pulled from the main quilt. Autumn Night Sky boasts 3 borders, an inner white sashing one to frame the quilt, a saw-tooth border showcasing all of the fabrics used in the center, and a lovely poppy red border to frame the quilt. My signed label is on the back, in the corner. This would show beautifully folded on the end of a queen or full/double bed as an accent. I show it fully opened on a queen sized bed so you can see how truly generously this throw is sized. All quilting is done by hand on a long-arm machine using a pantograph design as a guide by a local Tulsa, Oklahoma artisan, Lisa Hamilton-Harris. Nothing is done by computer so this is truly a hand-made quilt. You will note the high quality of this quilt evidenced especially by the well-matched points in the piecing and in the overall quilting design. I do not prewash my quilts as it is an unnecessary wear on an item most want as an heirloom. Even an occasional "airing" (hanging outside) can prolong the need for a wash. However, you may prefer to wash it sooner as it will add softness and a traditional beauty to its overall look--it is a personal preference I leave up to the buyer. It should be washed on a delicate/low spin cycle on COLD. I purchase only high-quality 100% cotton fabrics from quilt shops so dye bleeding has never been an issue. Still, I HIGHLY recommend washing your quilt with 2 to 3 Shout Color Guard sheets on its FIRST washing just to be safe. I also use quality cotton batting and thread to ensure your quilt will last for many years. Regarding the Night Sky pattern, in the case of Amish quilts, a star pattern contains a great deal of symbolism. A star represents good fortune, love, hope, harmony, energy, fertility and protection from fires. There are also finer design criteria pertaining to the number of points in a star, which also has significance. For example, eight points symbolizes abundance and good will. I do hope you will consider purchasing this quilt. I've put many hours of careful work into making it for you. A handmade quilt is truly an investment. I thank you for considering one of my quilts and if there are any questions I can answer to make you more comfortable in your purchase, please let me know. - Theresa
