Dragon pewter figurine, hand cast
In mythology, dragons are large reptiles similar in form to a crocodile and usually represented as having wings, huge claws, and a fiery breath. The ancient Greeks and Romans believed that dragons had the ability to understand and to convey the secrets of the earth. In Chinese culture, they are traditionally regarded as a symbol of good fortune. Dragons have figured into more recent American culture of course too, from Puff the Magic Dragon to favorite characters in Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, Name of the Wind and countless others. This hand cast pewter figurine is created in my small studio, located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Each of my figurines is hand crafted using 100% lead-free Britannia metal, known as pewter. Britannia metal (also called britannium or Britannia ware) is a specific type of pewter alloy, favoured for its silvery appearance and smooth surface. The composition is typically about 92% tin, 6% antimony, and 2% copper. I carefully pour and finish each piece so the final product is something you will treasure for many years. I've been casting pewter for over 30 years and, to many, this is seen as a lost art. The pictured piece is a very close example of the final product you will receive. As I hand-cast each figurine, there may be minor differences between the item pictured and the one you receive; I consider this to be one of the many unique benefits of purchasing a hand-crafted item. If you are interested in purchasing multiples of any of the items in my shop, please contact me, as I am happy to accommodate!
