Great Horned Owl pewter figurine, hand cast
This nocturnal hunter is quite the formidable mountain predator. Great horned owls have very keen hearing and eyesight and hunt mice, rabbits, voles, and sometimes fish. Their sense of smell is poor, so they are the only consistent predator of skunks! Their peculiar call or hoot can mean: "Eat my food; I'll eat you." This hand cast pewter figurine is created in my small studio, located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, where this extremely adaptable bird is plentiful. Their presence has created inspiration for this final creation. Each of my figurines is hand crafted using 100% lead-free Britannia metal, known as pewter. Britannia metal (also called britannium or Britannia ware) is a specific type of pewter alloy, favoured for its silvery appearance and smooth surface. The composition is typically about 92% tin, 6% antimony, and 2% copper. I carefully pour and finish each piece so the final product is something you will treasure for many years. I've been casting pewter for over 30 years and, to many, this is seen as a lost art. The pictured piece is a very close example of the final product you will receive. As I hand-cast each figurine, there may be minor differences between the item pictured and the one you receive; I consider this to be one of the many unique benefits of purchasing a hand-crafted item. If you are interested in purchasing multiples of any of the items in my shop, please contact me, as I am happy to accommodate!
