This is a beautiful handmade Turkish drop spindle. This is the smallest size that I make at the moment. My wife actually can fit this little spindle in her eyeglasses case when its taken apart along with her glasses. The cross pieces or "whorl" is 2 1/2" wide and handmade from Teak. The spindle is hand turned from Walnut and is approximately 3" long. Turkish spindles are very fun to spin on and you can even create a center pull ball as you are spinning. This spindle weighs roughly 6.7 grams and is suitable for spinning very fine yarns.
The look on all of these spindles; the lighter brown and darker brown separated by the even darker brown; is because the board I got was right at the demarcation between heart and sapwood. I start out with around a dozen of the petites.
