Welcome to the NORSK VALLEY WORKSHOP! NORSK VALLEY was created by Micah Lother in the summer of 2010. His inspiration came to him while on a trip to Norway, a land where his family roots run deep. He was moved by the stunning landscape mixed with the simplicity and beauty of Scandinavian life and design. ~ THE WAY OF NORSK VALLEY~ Here in the "valley," we aim to preserve the story of each tree we encounter, allowing their natural form to guide us in the design of our custom hand-made pieces. Our desire is that you will be inspired by their timeless beauty for years to come. ~ THE HEART OF NORSK VALLEY ~ "Every one of us is unique. Weathered by storms and strengthened with age, we are like a great cedar planted by a running stream. Every tree has its own hidden beauty locked inside. It reaches to feel the light of day and patiently waits to reveal it's untold story of a quiet friend that stands beside us and grows with us every day. A tree is always giving to us. It gives when it stands and gives when it falls. When it stands It gives us fruit for our bodies, shade from the sun and covering from the rain. When it falls It gives us warmth from the cold, it creates a space to dwell in, and builds for us a table to bring many friends together. And only when it falls, after decades of waiting, do we finally see exactly what our tree is made of." - Micah Lother ~ ITEM DESCRIPTION ~ The table in the picture above is the EXACT table you are purchasing. This solid slab round side table is full of wild beauty. Set on painted steel hairpin legs, it's a wonderful blend of Modern-meets-Nature. The tree cross section table top has been finely sanded to a smooth finish, and the sides retain their original character. Made of Walnut wood, this tree came from the forests of Minnesota. Its character was formed through a life lived in sunny summers and long cold winter months. Strength & Beauty is the product of it's effort. **Sealed with Natural Oil. I will explain the wood finishing methods we use at Norsk Valley and hopefully be of some help to you in your decision making process. To seal and protect the table surface, we hand rub natural oil into the surface of the table to seal the wood and bring out its natural color and character. This oil is a penetrating sealer that we work into the wood pores, protecting the surface from the inside out, and does not "cover" it with a layer of film or plastic (like poly). This method of surface protection and care is intended to let the wood breath and expand and contract naturally. Another benefit of using this type of sealing process is that the table surface will patina with age and wear.
