I am a stay at home mom to a beautiful eight-year-old daughter. I spent years feeling guilty for having to put work schedules over her needs just to make my employers happy, so I could keep my job. When my husband and I noticed how both of us working was affecting her negatively we knew it was time for a change. I became a stay at home mom who would pick up side work from home jobs that allowed me the flexibility to still be a mom and wife. Being a mom and a wife is my most important job and that needs to come first. It is a job I love more than anything and I made the decision that I would never again allow a job to force me to sacrifice those who are important to me. After 2 years of adjusting to my new life as a full-time mom and house wife I had my routine down pat. It had gotten to the point that I had a lot of free time on my hands. I needed to find something to do to fill those times. I have always loved making jewelry. I started making jewelry when I was 14 years old, it has always been a side hobby of mine. So, I decided that I would pick that hobby back up and add to my extensive jewelry collection. After all you can never have too much jewelry! One night I was sitting in the waiting room of my daughter’s dance studio when I was approached by another mom. She had wanted to know where I had found such beautiful earrings. When I had told her that I had designed and made these earrings myself she was stunned. Then she proceeded to ask me where she would buy a few of my pieces. At this point I am shocked and feeling a little uncomfortable with the fact that there was this mom who was very eager to buy the jewelry I had made. I was not used to this kind of attention and I am a rather shy quiet person, so all of her flattery was something else. When her daughters came out of their class she asked me to bring a few of my pieces the following week because she was very interested in buying some earrings from me. She also told me that she knows quality and uniqueness when she sees it and she highly recommended I start selling my jewelry and make a real business out of it because I did have the talent. Later that night when I told my husband about this encounter to my surprise he agreed that I should start selling my items. Two months later I opened my shop here on Etsy. I am very excited to make my hobby a business that I can run and be my own boss while still being able to be a wife and mom.
