In geometry, 137.5 degrees is known as the golden angle. The seeds of a sunflower, the spines of a cactus, and the bracts of a pine cone all grow in whirling spiral patterns because each new sprout is 137.5 degrees rotated from the previous sprout. I find inspiration for my jewelry from this very idea - that a basic math equation adopted by good ol' Mama Nature can result in complex and beautiful patterns throughout the natural world! I just love the idea that something as seemingly simple and pretty as a flower is actually borne from a very thoughtful, methodical construction.
