This beautiful ribbon or lace edge, antique silver pendant features the wing of a REAL butterfly, the Emperor Morpho Butterfly. The wing sits under a glass cabochon measuring 1.25" x 1.75". Both the pendant and the 24" chain are a beautiful antique silver. If you would like the chain shortened, please let me know and I will be happy to do that for you. The Emperor Morpho Butterfly (Morpho peleides) live in the rainforests of South America, and can be found in Mexico and Central America. The brilliant blue color in the butterfly's wings is caused by the diffraction of the light from millions of tiny scales on its wings. It uses this to frighten away predators, by flashing its wings rapidly. Morpho peleides drinks the juices from rotting fruits for food. HOW MY BUTTERFLIES ARE OBTAINED No butterflies are ever harmed or killed in the making of my jewelry. I obtain my butterflies from butterfly farms and conservatories after they have been allowed to live their full lifespan and have died naturally. Butterflies are natural works of art! By creating jewelry using real butterfly wings, these amazing works of art can by preserved and enjoyed, even after the butterflies have passed on naturally. CARE & CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS I spend a great deal of time, effort, and love creating each piece of jewelry. While my pieces are water resistant, because of the delicate nature of the wings, they are NOT waterproof. Please remove before showering or swimming. To clean, gently wipe with a baby wipe. Avoid detergents and other harsh chemicals as well as traditional jewelry cleaners.
