Chester Part 1--- God does work in mysterious ways and uses the most humble among us to do His works of mercy. A homeless man that walks the streets of our NE Texas town was used by God to save the life of a lost kitten. The kitten would not have been rescued had it not been for several circumstances coming together all at the right time. I do not know the name of this unfortunate individual. He was a high school star basketball player with a great future in sports. At a party some idiot teens slipped drugs into the punch. Several kids had severe reactions ending up in the hospital. One team member died and this young man had his brain functions altered forever. He sleeps at the local shelter but walks the streets by day. On a very hot day in July, I was on my way to the grocery store. I saw this individual walking and noticed him thinking to myself, that must be a poor homeless man. I did my shopping and on the way from the store saw this man again and he was carrying a small kitten. I drove a little ways saying “not my business.” But I turned around. I stopped and asked the man about the kitten. He could only talk in garbled sentences but what I understood was that he saw the kitten in the road, picked it up and took it to a shady spot behind a business. I paid him $20 for the kitten and took him home. CHESTER--PART 2 --A month later I took Chester to the vet for kitten shots. A woman I used to work happened to be there at the same time and recognized Chester as a kitten from her mama cat’s current litter. She said he disappeared the day some work men were at her house doing repairs. All the way across town, he either he fell out of their truck or was put out. She did not want him back and was glad to find out he had a good ending. This homeless man was in the right place at the right time to scoop him out of the road, then I came along to give Chester a forever home. I learned the story about this homeless man from a lady who used to get snacks as a child from the woman whose son died from the drugs at the party. Chester grew up to be a very nice people loving cat. He has to be in your business all the time. If I am using power tools, he is right there! But he is aggressive toward some of our other cats. But when he sleeps he looks like such an angel!
